Using the new Integration & user variable system

Hello everyone!

Follow the steps below to utilize the new “user variable” system that powers the new Integration screen in TestRail.

By performing the following actions, your TestRail users will be able to push/add cases to your desired defect/requirements tool under their own names - using the username/password they define on their “My Settings” page.

  1. Decide how you would like defects/requirements to be pushed/added:
  1. Go to Administration > Integration

  2. Choose your Defect Plugin

  3. Ensure Defect View URL and Defect Add URL are defined (see: “Tool How-To”

  4. Under “User Variabe”, click “Add User Variable”

  5. Create the “Username” User Variable

  • Label: (Integration) Username
  • Description:
  • System Name: int_username
  • Type: String
  • Fallback:
  • Click “OK” to save
  1. Create the “Password” User Variable
  • Label: (Integration) Password
  • Description:
  • System Name: int_password
  • Type: String
  • Fallback:
  • Click “OK” to save
  1. In the “Defect Plugin” section, find the “user=” line
  • change it to: user=%int_username%
  1. In the “Defect Plugin” section, find the “password=” line
  • change it to: password=%int_password%

; Please configure your FogBugz connection below [connection] address=https://<your-server> user=%int_username% password=%int_password%

  1. Save Settings!

Navigate to My Settings > Settings. You’ll now see the (Integration) Username and (Integration) Password User Variable fields you created in STEP 6 and STEP 7. Enter your username/password for your defect tool selected in STEP 3.

Any defects you push/add should now be entered/“submitted-as” the user defined the My Settings screen!

I hope this helps!
