Using configurations as variables to put details into test steps

Say, I need to run the same test, with 6 different types of Users/Permissions against several differnt types of objects.
Right Now I am using the Configurations to generate a version of each test, but is there a way in the
Precondition/Steps/Results for me to do something like

Log in as a <> …
Preform action click on element <>

And Have test rails substitute the configuration in for the <> and <> so the test is more explicit about the details, rather than just having it labeled as a configuration.
Or is there a better way of doing this in Test Rail than configurations.

Hi There! I’m in a similar situation, where i’d like to basically have a master variable list, and then each step is updated off that list. This would make my test cases change from something like this:

  1. Log in with Account1, and verify the cutscene does not plays
  2. log in with Account2 and verify the custscene does play

to this:

  1. Log in with (x1), and verify the cutscene does not plays
  2. log in with (x2) and verify the custscene does play

Then have a list in testrail where

x1 = Account1
x2 = Account2

Have you had any luck in figuring out a way to do this? I haven’t seen any replies but was wondering if you found a different resource.

Thanks!
