Woohoo! We just finished up our server release testing and are pleased to announce that our Server customers can now download the latest and greatest 5.5 code from the customer portal.
We do have a couple of warnings before you go ahead and carry out your upgrades though…
As you’ll already be aware from our previous 5.5 related forum entry and accompanying blog post, our changes for 5.5 included some quite hefty database performance improvements. Upgrading your existing database with the changes can take a little while.
- For users with smaller databases (e.g. 15GB or less), this shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. You can expect your TestRail database update to take around an hour.
- For customers with larger databases, the update can take considerably longer. If you have a 200GB database for example, it could take 12 hours or more to fully update. We therefore recommend you give yourself a 24hour maintenance window to carry out your TestRail Server upgrade.
- If you have a substantially larger database, you should plan your maintenance window accordingly.
Other than that, you can upgrade in the normal fashion by following the instructions here: http://docs.gurock.com/testrail-admin/installation-upgrading/
And now, a word from our developers: “YOU WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY CRAZY NOT TO TAKE A BACKUP BEFORE UPDATING!”
You have been warned.
Further information about the TestRail backup process can be found here: http://docs.gurock.com/testrail-admin/admin-creating-backup
As an aside, many of you will no-doubt appreciate that it’s difficult (nay, impossible) for us to exhaustively test for all potential database upgrade scenarios. So with that in mind, we would be happy to hear from Server customers who are interested in providing feedback on their upgrade experiences so we can hopefully provide a better service to all our users.
Please feel free to reach out below if that resonates with you or your team.
