Links within Test Cases

Sometimes in test cases we want to use a link to reference some further information. Unfortunately when you are running the test case, if you click on the link it opens it in the same window, and you lose all your test results. Very frustrating, and has been experienced by several of my team. I am looking for a way to force the link to open in a new window. Normally I’d just use a target="_blank" in my html, but I understand that it isn’t possible to use html within the test case. Is there any other way of doing it?

I have the same problem. It is very frustrating to lose all the test results.
I reported this Oct 2016

Link to URL opens new window and closes TestRail

+1 for me. I want to start embedding links in Test Cases, but this would be a very frustrating behavior for testers to encounter.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for posting! There is not currently a setting in TestRail that forces the browser to open links in a new tab or new window. We do already have a feature request for this and I have added your vote as well. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a specific timeframe/ETA for this yet. In the meantime, we would recommend using either the ctrl + click or the middle-click method to open the link in a new tab or new browsing window as needed.

I hope this helps!

we are also looking for this functionality of being able to open a url in a new browser window so testers don’t lose their test results.
